Job Description
Engineering Manager

Roles and Responsibilities
• Manage the software development process end-to-end.
• Work with various stakeholders inside the company to understand requirements, estimate, prioritize and schedule work.
• Work with product managers to flesh requirements out in detail.
• Lead and mentor the engineering team.
• Ensure that the engineering team drives product innovation.
• Own the functional as well as internal quality of work done by the engineering team. Should be comfortable doing code and design reviews.
• Set up metrics to measure quality and productivity of the team. Work towards continuous improvement of products and processes.
• Work with the technical architect to ensure products are designed with flexibility, maintainability and performance in mind.
• Recruit the right talent and keep attrition low. Ensure the team has high levels of motivation and energy.

Work Experience and skill set:
5-10 years of overall experience in engineering.

This should include the following:

Essential
• Design and development using object oriented techniques.
• Java - Server Side application development including at least some of the following technologies: servlets, struts, spring, Hibernate, web services.
• Ability to lead integration and troubleshooting efforts in production, upon project delivery (post development).
• Developing solutions for performance, high reliability and scalability in Linux/Java environments.
• XML technologies
• Databases – Working knowledge of SQL and databases.
• Unix/Linux – Working knowledge
• Experience with agile development. Doesn’t necessarily have to be any specific methodology: just has to understand how to make an engineering team ‘agile’.
• Experience using JUnit/Mock objects frameworks.
• Good understanding of software effort estimation and scheduling.
• Must have managed an engineering team for at least 6 months.
• Should have strong understanding of software engineering, and the software development and release cycle.
• Should have leadership experience in a fast paced engineering organization.
• Should have excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Willingness to take complete ownership of deliverables.
• Ability to work with minimal guidance and handle operational ambiguity.

Salary : 15-20 lacs pa
